Liam and his team are true lean experts, the best I ever met in my long career as head of factories. They excel not with power point slides but with solid lean work on the shop floor. Results have been fantastic in all projects they conducted for us. In Jinan, within less than 9 month they introduced lean thinking and a sense of urgency, which largely exceed our expectations. Our local workforce has been powered up by the coaching and training of LCL. Most importantly, productivity continued to rise by 10-15% per year after the project with LCL ended. Our own people became so engaged into lean thinking, that productivity improvements became self propelling. Our site in Jinan now is among the most productive in the entire global Festo supply network.
I can recommend him highly to any organisation with concerns for their future. His leadership skills, determination to succeed, his practical application of the Lean Tools, supported by a small but highly talented team will guarantee success in any culture or geography.
SNR. VICE PRESIDENT OF TECHNICAL OPERATIONS ORAL B LABORATORIES/GILLETTE
As Managing Director, Liam had responsibility for all factory operations and distribution to our EU Markets and other Export Markets. Liam’s leadership allowed the world class techniques applied on the manufacturing floor to be employed in all aspects of the operations.
PRESIDENT OF ORAL B
Liam was the strongest site leader we had. He consistently produced outstanding results on all fronts. In 2000 he went to Iowa City where we had our largest factory. It had become increasingly uncompetitive and compared unfavourably with sister plants around the world, particularly China and Mexico. It was our intention to close it.
He laid out very clearly how moving it from North America would severely damage our business. He said that within months he would produce a budget that would eliminate China and Mexico as threats. And he did just that. Within 2 years of him going there, it became the benchmark site within Gillette. Any factory will be fortunate indeed to secure his talents.
MICHAEL T. COWHIG:
RETIRED PRESIDENT – GLOBAL MANUFACTURING AND TECHNOLOGY OPERATION – GILLETTE
Liam is a high performing operations executive. His leadership in Lean Manufacturing and related activities transformed the manufacturing operations of Gillette’s Oral Care business. His strong leadership in identifying and eliminating unnecessary costs led to the creation of world class manufacturing sites for oral care products in North America, Europe and Asia. He is a strong leader with practical experience running manufacturing operations across the globe.
VICE PRESIDENT WORLDWIDE MANUFACTURING (RETD), GILLETTE MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS.
Liam Cassidy is one of the very best Manufacturing and Operations leaders I know. Liam understands how work gets done and how to motivate and enable people to achieve their maximum potential.
In Gillette, Liam was a leader in bringing Lean and Lean Principles into our Global Manufacturing and Packaging Operations. An important part of this was Liam’s ability to influence and guide Senior Management regarding, first, the overall value of Lean and then the strategy for successful implementation of Lean. As part of this, Liam was a key member of a team that reduced total costs by 5 to 6% year on year for 8 consecutive years leading up Gillette’s acquisition by P&G.
Liam’s abilities and experience span a wide spectrum of operations environments from very simple and labour intensive component manufacturing, assembly and packaging operations to very highly automated operations requiring skilled labour and very sophisticated products, processes and equipment. His experience and influence also spans the globe from The Americas to Europe to the Far East
Whenever I am faced with challenges in improving operations, reducing costs and maximizing the capabilities of a work force; Liam is one of the very first people I would go to. This would be especially true if introducing Lean or improving Lean practices were part of the challenge.
DR. BOHUMIL HERCIK:
PLANT MANAGER, POLYVANCED, CESKA LIPA, CZECH REPUBLIC
In mid 2010 we embarked on our Lean Transformation journey, to turn our traditional factory into a “Benchmark” site for the wider organisation. In this journey we were supported by LCL Lean Consultants, who provided a small team of specialists on site. It has been remarkably successful. We have achieved, indeed exceeded, all of our key objectives. Our factory looks terrific, our internal inventories have been halved, productivity has increased by 40% thereby eliminating the need for additional capital expenditure. Our management and shop floor structures have been changed to make them more effective. Our workforce is more energised and has a much greater understanding of the competitive environment in which we operate. We would like to acknowledge the leading role of LCL in this. They led us all the way. “Doing” by example and teaching our people necessary skills so that they can do it themselves.
They promised us hard work, success and a lot of fun. Indeed it was and still is !
